TOUCH SCREEN DISPLAYS

Touch Screen Display for the Modern Day Businesses

Touch screen display is becoming very popular because of the ease with which it can be operated by most users. It is no longer considered a high end product today with more and more businesses adopting this for performing routine functions. It is certainly the interface of choice for modern day business. Touch screen monitors are now being sold at affordable prices and are offered in different sizes.

A touch-screen display senses touch and is used to input data or give commands to a computer or other such devices. It identifies the occurrence and position of a touch in the display area. The touch to the display is usually through a stylus or a finger or hand. Display touch screen is used in a variety of different applications such as PDA's (personal digital assistants), POS (point of sale) cash registers, ATM’s, cell phones, gaming consoles and car navigation screens.

Types

There are three main types of touch screen technology

Wire Resistive touch screen:  It is the most affordable type of display touch screen, but it provides about 75-80% image clarity. Stylus, fingers or any other type of touch can activate the screen. The two most popular architectural configurations are the 4 and 5 wire resistive touch screens.
• Capacitive touch screen: It is a durable technology and is mostly used in POS system, kiosks, and industrial machinery. It offers a higher clarity than resistive screens.  However, you can activate capacitive screens only with an exposed finger and it is slightly more expensive.
SAW Touch Screen: It offers maximum image clarity and can be activated by soft-tip stylus, finger or even by gloved hand. However, it is the most expensive of the three types of touch screens.
